A transfer from Shinkansen is available at
Tokuyama (Shinkansen) Station for Sanyo Line east bound for Iwaguni and Hiroshima to YANAI station.

Yanai Historical Area

Yanai has been developed as a commercial city since 18th century. A scene of beautiful bright white walls along the street in old city district tells us its prosperity back in old days. Yanai has only producer of Kanro Shoyu (soy sauce) in Japan, which has own distinct taste and Yanai is also widely known for the "Gold Fish" lanterns that are decorated in summer time.

It is open for public and you can see the process of production of Kanro Shoyu.
An antique house of Kunimori Family
Since it was built in late 17th century, it has a lot of features such as contrivances against robber or fire which happened often in those days.

Former Suo Bank Headquarters
It was built in 1907 for Suo Bank Headquarters. Now, the building itself is being used as an Information Center for travelers and there is a model of entire old preserved district in Yanai city.
